Don’t Start A Podcast If…

Podcasts have been on the rise in popularity and availability, but that doesn’t mean they’re without their not-so-obvious pitfalls.

From budgetary needs to technical difficulties to critical feedback, there are many obstacles that can face a podcast.

And even when you’ve cleared all those hurdles, you still have the task of attracting new listeners.

Don’t start a podcast if you’re not 100% committed to the project.

Put in the time and effort to create a quality show with good audio equipment, work on your marketing, and prepare content that people will enjoy.

Do you know it takes about 9–10 hours to work on a high-quality one-hour episode?

Anyone can do it for an episode. But can you maintain that enthusiasm throughout the series? Are there any personal or business commitments that can get in the way?

Podcasts can’t attract enough people just by being in a directory (unless you’re a celebrity or an authority in the field). The presence of active social media is essential to promoting your work and getting feedback from listeners.

At the end of the day, podcasting is an audio spectacle. And your audio quality matters. Listeners may not be sound engineers, but high-quality sound plays a big part in how they’ll perceive you.

You don’t have to build a full-fledged professional studio. But to create a podcast with rich sound, you need to spend a decent amount of money on basic hardware and software. Check out My preferred [cost-effective] 2-man podcast set-up… [a thread]

If you don’t care about spending anything on the production, don’t start a podcast.

And finally, podcasting no be MMM. It’s not a get-rich-quick scheme.

There are no shortcuts, success might come faster for some than others but I implore you to reassess your ideas of podcasting success.

One good thing though, e no too far from now, podcast hosting platforms on the continent go soon begin dey look out for the smallie podcaster.

Keep at it, keep working hard and churning out great content, rich in African stories.

The Second Season of my show, The Tony Doe Podcast drops Wednesday, April 6, 2022, with guest, Seth Da Sleek Igwe. You fit support your boy small with a cup of coffee…
